Family Photography Sessions during Corona virus || San Jose Family Photographer

I’m stopping by to let you know that during this Summer I am still open for business. Many family photographers decide not to work and are taking their time off. That’s totally okay because this is a very personal decision to make.

However, instead of a variety of different packages and prices, with all that’s happening right now, I decided to offer 30 minutes long minis in the comfort of your own front porch or back yard. I want to make it as easy as possible for all my clients!

Don’t worry! YOUR FRONT or BACK YARD is AWESOME FOR FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY SESSIONS – I promise you!

I  have spent countless hours driving around the Bay Area and testing new locations. I still do that, because I have clients who’ve been with me for the last 7 years and I don’t want to run out of new locations to offer them each year!

All outdoor photographers have their “super secret” list of favorite locations they are ready to recommend for their clients. I have such a list as well. But when the world turns topsy-turvy the list is as useless as the list you make for the hospital before your labor. Do you know what list I’m talking about?

I was asked to make such a list for the doctors and nurses before my first daughter was born. They told me to write my entire plan for the delivery.

So I went ambitious:

  • all-natural,
  • no painkillers,
  • vaginal delivery,

But when the labor came, I was begging for epidural, and when my husband opened his mouth and this sentence got out of him: “but honey we had a different plan” I was about to shred him to pieces.

So, yeah… the list of beautiful locations can wait for another time… It’s still available for my clients if they want it…

I want to make it as easy as possible for my clients. Plus those mini sessions are designed to be as affordable as possible, too.

With the right attitude and the right angle, we can make anything work. Plus, these are special times. And special times call for special solutions 🙂

MAKE SURE TO TAKE YOUR HOLIDAY CARDS PICTURES THIS YEAR A LITTLE EARLIER…

As the world is absolutely unstable right now, and nothing is for sure, I really recommend taking care of your FALL pictures this SUMMER.

There are some predictions that the shelter in place (in its full potential) is going to return this Fall. That means no sessions, again 🙁 So, I really want everybody to start thinking about their family photos a little earlier this year. It might feel weird, but I think it’s also awesome to think outside of the box.

I’m open for sweet and short (not to mention fun) sessions:

  • on your front porch,

  • in your backyard,

  • in-home lifestyle, like baking cookies or doing crafts and arts or hanging out with your pet.

No matter the size of the pet. I’m pretty pet friendly.

As always I’m very open to hiking sessions or beach sessions. If you’re feeling adventurous or simply want to document your family having fun somewhere outside your home, that’s absolutely fine.  Let’s make it fun, short, and filled with as many kisses and hugs as possible.

AFFORDABLE PRICE and A GREAT GIFT

The sessions I’m offering have two prices:

  • $175 for 10 images if you want it super short and kept to a minimum!
  • $250 for all images from the session

All images are going to be delivered online via online gallery and you will be able to purchase additional images after you see them – in a situation where you book the 10 images package but after you see the gallery you will want them all. And I know that this is going to happen because so far all my recent clients have done that! Hahaha!

This would be also a wonderful gift for families that you know could use a cheer-up these days! Or just for your sister or brother or a bestie!

Use the contact page to schedule your session!!!
See you soon!

Family session videography || San Jose Family Videographer

With the time during which I’ve been pursuing my passion in photography and the values I offer in the communities around me, I’ve discovered another passion. If you look around my website, you’ll see quite a few videos. So, you can probably guess.

Videography while doing family, or any other kind of photography session.

Family session videography San Jose Morgan Hill Family Videographer

I’ve been providing video clips from family session since 2015 (if I’m not mistaken, haha), however I never really took the time to talk about it and to introduce it the proper way.

Videography services for families who care about documenting the precious & too fast fleeting moments in a medium that captures movement and sound…

Can you imagine to be able access the sweet voice of your little one laughing, and jumping and making silly faces in 10 or 20 years!

All of that while YOU are in the video, as well!?!? This is something, that’s a little different that the still photographs. And I know you might not feel like you want to be in a video. I know you might even think, being a part of a photo session is a stretch already.

As scary as it might sound, it actually is super fun. You don’t even feel like the video is being done. I do at the same time as I take pictures. Often I mix the images, the video, and carefully picked piece of music to create piece of memory you will LOVE.

The video is happening at the same time as the regular photo session, so there’s no need to panic, fake it, run away!

You will LOVE it and CHERISH it for the rest of your life. Not to mention the amazing memories your kids are going to be able to share with their kids and your grandchildren.

One of my very favorite videos I made is the breastfeeding one.

You should see my daughter reacting to the video I made for her during our mom-daughter photo shoot. My private Pippi Longstocking…

Why and how I decluttered my photography style

In today’s post for 15 Day Blog Challenge I’m connecting two days into one: Day 12 and day 13. After I listened to both videos from Natalie Sisson (the creator of this challenge) for day 12 and 13 topics I immediately knew how I want to write it and that I want to connect those two days into one post. I knew I want to write about decluttering my photography style, because it’s been a journey for me, a very important one. I can’t say the journey is finished because it feels like I have just begun….

Here are the topics:

Day 12 – “What work and life clutter are you going to remove to be more of a minimalist and free up space for you?”

Day 13 – “Which ONE thing are you going to introduce into your life that is going to help your mind, body or soul?”

When I started my business I knew I want it to be real. I wanted to be more about how people ARE instead of about how we can IMPROVE them with our photoshop tricks and the perfect lightening. I was sick and tired of looking at photographs of photoshopped faces and liquified figures. It wasn’t me. I didn’t feel connected to that kind of photography.

With my photography I wanted to celebrate the parenthood the way it is. I wanted to encourage parents to look at the final photos from each session and feel joy, love and happiness. After trying “this and that” I have realized the only things I want to be happening during my sessions are the real emotions. I decided to go prop less if I only can. I want my clients to be themselves. I don’t want them to play a role, fake something for the purpose of the session. I want them to bring their RAW selves. I’ll make it work for them. No matter what.

simple_style_photography_ewa_samples_photography-1

I decluttered my Pinterest boards from portraits including “fake” props. These days I almost never use Pinterest for session ideas. I think every family is unique and while it is good to have a back up plan for poses I think it is more important to let the family be REAL.

This approach has given me a limitless possibilities. With each family we can do something else. Something especial. Getting rid of all the other distractions and worries about props and what not I felt like I have finally got where I wanted to be in a first place with my business.

simple_style_photography_ewa_samples_photography-2

While many people think their photographs will get better if they get better (and more) equipment, I think my photography gets better if I take the time to look deeper with whatever I have, or just simply BE in the moment. Real life is not always crystal clear and tack sharp, and I like to emphasize that.

simple_style_photography_ewa_samples_photography-3

The ONE THING I decided to introduce into my life that has been helping me to do just that is my old friend. This tiny fellow is as made of gold for me (it actually a sturdy piece of metal, anyway). It has been laying in my drawer for the last 10 years until I figured out how to attach it to my DSRL. Why I hadn’t think of it earlier, don’t ask me. I’m pretty embarrassed about it myself.

helios_photography_ewa_samples_photography-1

helios_photography_ewa_samples_photography-2

I rarely use this little guy during my sessions with clients but when I decide to do it, I think magic happens. I know how important “crispy sharpness” is to people these days and how stress about it they can get. That’s why I  use this lens only for a short periods during some of my sessions. It’s more for my own pleasure then for anything else, although I have heard many wonderful words about photographs taken with this lens from my clients. And that makes my little heart sing!

helios_photography_ewa_samples_photography-3

helios_photography_ewa_samples_photography-5

helios_photography_ewa_samples_photography-4

lifestyle_newborn_photographer_los_alto_cupertino_ewa_samples_photography_1

This lens is permanently attached to my camera when I go out with my kids these days. If I was a poet I would definitely write a poem about this lens.

helios_kids_photography_ewa_samples_photography-5

But instead I’ll use someone else’s words describing my thoughts:

Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.

Yes, this little fellow is worth gold to me. It helps me to feel good about photography when I feel like I’m burning out. This ONE small thing has helped me to shape my passion way better then any $1500 lens would had done it.

How about you? What does make your heart sing and keeps it inspired?

Ewa

Why breastfeeding mothers should be showcased not covered?

In the past 3 weeks I have taken a series of breastfeeding portraits for mothers from all over the Bay Area (click here to see the entire gallery), and I have fallen in love in this project. Mostly because of all the comments I have received from many of the moms after they saw their pictures.

From

“it was my dream to have breastfeeding photos taken with my son”

to

“I showed the picture to my mom and she said she couldn’t stop looking at it”

I could not believed how thrilled and happy were all the moms to be able to participate in such a session. I think, in my whole career I haven’t met a mom who was so excited for a regular family session as those mom were for their breastfeeding sessions.

In my opinion breastfeeding mothers should be showcased and not asked to cover because it’s a very healthy approach to our nature, to our bodies, and because it’s beautiful.

Now it’s your turn. Fill the blanks:

“In my opinion breastfeeding mothers should be showcased not asked to cover because ______________.”

How to win your free, professional, dream photo session?

win your dream photo session_ewasamplesphotography

I have planned to do it for a LONG, LONG time! Always wanted to find a special moment, or special inspiration, or special something to announce it, until I finally decided to do it. Because there is never more appropriate moment to do something then now. Putting things aside often ends with not doing them at all.

As photographers we always need to pick a niche in which we want to create the most of our pictures and get paid for them. Mine is Natural Light Family Photography. But I would be lying if I said I am not interested and wouldn’t want to try different kind of photography.

This post is to express my need for creating something more original and unique. To do that I need a person willing to work with me, someone understating and patient, and someone who more than anything wants to have a fun session!

I have recently talked with several of my clients (all moms) during our photo sessions and I was positively surprised that they were talking about wanting to do more creative photo shoots. I have learned that just like me, many moms have their own “dream photos” they would want to have done. They are definitely not family photos with kids, husbands, in nice, elegant clothes, smiling to the camera! Some of them are very dark and moody! When I learned about it…

…this is when the idea of running this contest was born.

To ENTER the contest:

– go to my Facebook page and leave comment with your idea of a “dream session” in the comment area under this post (you can describe it with words, or upload a picture, or a link to a website, Pinterest board, etc)

– it would be nice if you liked my page first but it’s not required (as I prefer real fans and followers over forced ones!)

THE WINNER will have chance to recreate with me his/her “dream session”.

– PERSON WITH THE MOST LIKES ON HER/HIS COMMENT WILL WIN THE CONTEST!

and just so you know I probably will not be able to do underwater photography, airplane jumping photography or nude photography. I also want to say that the word “RECRETE” is used here very freely, loosely. If you use a certain photograph or certain style of a photographer as an example of your dream session I will not try to copy that image/style in 100%. We will simply try to “be inspired” by the given photo or the style.

The contest will end on June 10th. The “dream session” will take a place in San Jose/Cupertino Area.

For a small encouragement, I will share as first:

– These are photos by Caroline White Photography (www.carolinewhitephotography.com), whom I adore! And if I could work with her it would be dream come true!

Lifestyle newborn photography session {Newborn Photographer, Palo Alto, CA}

Lifestyle newborn photography session, those words together sound like Philip Glass to my ears. I love to hear from my clients that they want lifestyle newborn session. I just love it! I get so happy when that happens. As much as I like to play with props and cute newborn outfits, I think I am super fond of lifestyle sessions. If I was to ask a professional to photograph my newborn baby (and today I regret I didn’t do that when my kids were so little), I would definitely had gone with the photography session that is more natural for the baby.

One of the most beautiful things to photograph is a newborn and his/her family in their natural environment. Lifestyle newborn photography is beautiful. Every session has its own beauty, but I think, the most beautiful are sessions where kids are in their environment. When I get to a client’s home the kids there are most likely going to be the ones who “take charge” – they like to showcase their toys, books, art they did the other day. They like to show you around. I like it. I like how natural they are, almost immediately. You might be the strange lady for them, but the good thing is they still are in their own territory and that’s a huge plus.

During this session being a strange lady was not an issue. Before the newborn session we had already met twice. You can read more about it here . They were such troopers. Love working with those guys!

Dad for two {Maternity Photographer, Palo Alto, CA}

For some reason, I think I have been one lucky photographer. While I constantly learn new things about how to pose my clients, how to engage kids more, how to make dads more involved in the session, more often than not I do not have to use this knowledge with my clients. Why? Because my clients are awesome! As soon as I take my camera out they do what they are best at – they are themselves.

This maternity session was amazing. While I was preparing my gear and thinking what I want to begin with, I wasn’t paying much attention to what was going on behind me. Then I turned to get the session started and what I saw was a family already striking an awesomely funny pose. They were more ready then I was because they took me by surprise. lol

Family Re-union {Family Photographer, San Jose, CA}

I had a quite fun to photograph this family re-union. I’m not sure if it’s the era of pictures and videos being a prime medium and because of that many people feeling very natural in front of the camera, or I’m just lucky to be getting such great clients to work with. I’m not kidding, even before I was able to finish my sentence how I want them to pose they were already ready and smiling.

And you know the family had fun with you when at the end you’re asked to pose with them as a souvenir.

The Miracle Of Life {Newborn and Maternity Photographer, San Jose, CA}

maternity_fall_session_bay_area_san_jose_cupertino_family_photography_ewa_samples_1

Some of the best things that happen to photographers are “coming back” clients. They make us feel wonderful. The other thing that makes us feel wonderful is to be able to watch them grow as a family. Pregnant mom hugging her newborn treasure. Newborn becoming a running away from you toddler, and all that in front of your camera. How cool is that?

Very recently I had the chance to experience the warm fuzzy feeling those kind of sessions bring.

First we met for a maternity session, and way before out session I was warned about the soon-to-be a Big Brother not liking to be photographed. To a great surprise of his parents he endured the session like a pro.

Few months later I met them again, richer in one family member. What a sweet and full of sleep Prince he was.
