Field Trial, Porterville, February 2016
My husband Jay and I wanted to thank you all for allowing us to enjoy your field trial, to camp with you, and to photograph the event. My family had a great time, my kids fell in love with camping, and my husband got to spend the weekend doing what he loves, being around hunting dogs, shooting, and photography.
We wanted to make the photos we took available to you. You can download them for free and use them for any non-profit purpose as long as you don’t edit them in any way or remove the watermark. Instructions for how to access and download them are below. If you decide you want to use a photo for a business purpose, just contact me and we can talk about licensing the photo to you.
My husband and I are also owners of and lovers of field bred English Springer Spaniels. My husband got his first ESS pup, Di (bred by Brian Crosby in Norco, CA), when he was in the military, around the same time Mark Thorpe got his pup, Abby Normal.
Jay met Mark through the Southern California Sporting Spaniel Club, and participated in some of the hunt tests hosted in Chino Hills and in Lodi, picking up three legs toward a junior hunter title, although he mostly just hunted over Di. They spent years hunting Ducks, Quail, and Chukar together in the desert areas of Southern California. We lost Di to cancer in July of last year, but she will always be in our hearts.
After we met, Jay was honorably discharged from the USAF and started working in pest control. We also got a new ESS. Jay purchased a pup from Jim Giaccobe in 2012 to use at work and named her Maggie. Maggie has been working with Jay ever since and is a great scent detection dog. In fact, she found bed bugs this morning in an apartment in Cupertino.
Jay and Maggie are certified by the National Entomology Scent Detection Canine Association , and the World Detector Dog Organization .
In May 2015 Jay decided he needed a second scent detection dog and purchased another ESS, Rosie. This last winter Jay introduced Rosie to birds and to the gun, and he hopes to not only use Rosie at work to find bed bugs, but also to hunt over her as well.
Although we’re not in a position where Jay can own a field trial dog, he has always loved the game, and has always wished he could have a dog he could run in field trials. We’re hoping that happens some day, but in the mean time, we’re really happy to be able to enjoy the game with you while sharing with you our love of dogs and photography. Thank you for allowing us to photograph you and your amazing dogs!
