Ewa Samples

I’m Ewa (Eva), and I’m San Jose Cupertino Family, Maternity Portrait Photographer and Videographer. In the past I’ve photographed from Concord and San Francisco to Morgan Hill and many places in between. Majority of my sessions are done in San Jose, Cupertino, Palo Alto, Stanford, Sunnyvale, and Los Gatos. As much as I love working with natural light I also can create beautiful images in my portable studio. I love to create, and limiting myself to one source of light or one style of photographing families is not the way to express myself. I don't limit myself to sunset (so called golden hour) sessions. I shot at any given time. 4 years ago I pursued a project called 365 Self-Potrait Project in which I took one self-portrait a day for a year. From a project which was supposed to be about me it had turned into something that was about mothers and motherhood. I called it “Portrait of a Mother” which was featured on Bon Bon Break. Since that project I try to embrace every opportunity I get to be on the picture with my family. I know how hard it is for many mothers out there to do the same, and my mission is to change it…

Happy As Hugo {Infant Photography, San Jose, CA}

Hugo is 7 months old and his mom told me I just got lucky to meet him on one of his good days, but I think he just loves to be photographed!

In addition he is one lucky guy. His mom who went through a surgery after having a breast inflammation is still breastfeeding him.

No wonder Hugo is so happy. He is well taken care of. What else to want from life? Right 🙂

Ah… and we actually captured his first confrontation with grass… and while not very sure about it at first, after a few minutes he went to his daily routine, push-ups 😉

Happy 1st B-day {Kids Photography, San Jose, CA}

It’s been 1 year since she came to this world.

Oh… what a year it was!

Happy B-day NO.2! 🙂

A typical day in the life of an Au Pair {Portrait Photography, San Jose, CA}

We met with Anna before. We worked on a session with more make-up, and with more chic outfits, but there is nothing more fun than a session where your model wears a tracksuit 🙂 Seriously!

This time we met to document her ordinary day minus the kids she has to take care of.

With this session I wanted to capture the regular, the normal and the boring side of this cultural exchange program called AU PAIR.

Here are a few words about it from Anna herself:

For most of the European girls being an Au Pair in USA is a part of the American Dream. We watch American movies and tv shows, and dream about the palm trees, the fancy clothes and the life without worries. In those stories babysitters take care of rich, angel-like-looking kids, have super-duper cars for their own use and for most of the day they just sit in the swimming pool or hot-tubs. In the Evenings they party.

So we go to the au pair agencies and say, I want to go to USA! I want my own American Dream!

We often forget about one thing, though. We are here to work, to take care of somebody else’s kids. This work is full-time job, 45 hours. We’re responsible for those little humans, we need to be for them all the time, and we need to do whatever their parents expect us to do.

If you’re hoping for roller-coaster life and martinis in a pool, this is not program for you. The daily routine is booooring: making lunches, cleaning, doing laundry, school’s drop-off/pick-up’s, snacks, homework, bedtime. Everyday. The same thing over, and over again. When we want to run away from all that – we go shopping. Things are way cheaper than in our countries. So we buy like crazy: shoes, clothes, bags. Shopping is every au pair way to relax. Many travel. We want to visit places with those palm trees, fancy stores which we’ve seen in the movies.

Many au pair realize that this program is not just fun, it’s hard work as well, and it’s not quite the American Dream they were expecting. Well, this shouldn’t stop anybody from taking the best of what they have and trying to have as much fun, and see as many places as possible just so they can go back home with heads full of memories of great moments and great places.

This session with Ewa  is going to be one of those memories.

With this session I am launching a new offer, available all year long and exclusive for au pairs only. For more details click here

An Au Pair Extraordinaire {Portrait Photography, San Jose, CA)

Vibrant, natural, happy, brave, energetic with a wonderful sense of humor.

She will make you smile – that’s for sure.

She left Poland to become an Au Pair in cultural exchange program.

She just flew over San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge (for the second time), and because of that she is the happiest person in the world, or because of the handsome flight instructor 😉 .

Her blog is on the 4th place in the 2013 International Exchange Blog Contest.

In a few months her adventure with the U.S comes to an end and asked what’s next, she said, “probably Germany”, but before she leaves  there is a cross country road trip to be crossed out from her bucket list!

The Girls in Yellow Hats {Kids Photography, San Jose, CA}

What a lovely day we had today.
We have managed to finish colorful hats and take them for some shooting – the hats, I mean.
The kids loved the idea of wearing new hats and they definitely didn’t mind to spend some time playing outdoors.

Relaxation Shooting. While waiting for the client.

Do you know the feeling that you get while preparing for a photo session?

I bet many photographers are passed this phase and photo sessions are like a grocery shopping for them.

I am not. I still have butterflies in my stomach and an adrenaline rush starting the day before the session.

Relaxation shooting is the best resolution to that.

Yesterday it happened 30 minutes before the session.

After I finished my coffee I walked around our outdoor location and captured a few creatures that crossed my way!

In no time I was realaxed, calm and ready for the real fun!

NOT twin Brothers! {Kids Photography, San Jose, CA}

When I got to their house, at 8am, I was welcomed by one sleepy head, his older brother was still asleep, and we got up he wasn’t in the best mood for a photo shoot. We had worked a little bit harder than usual to get a smile out of him. We watched cartoons, ate breakfast and played together. I captured their morning routine.

Goodbye California, {Family Photography, San Jose, CA}

They were flying, jumping, hula hooping, peek-a-booing and hiding in moving boxes. What a session!!!

I had a pleasure to photograph this fun to work with family right after their baby No.2 was born (pictures from that session HERE).

This time we met for a session that would capture the memories about their neighborhood, their favorite park, their favorite spot at their house (a couch, lol), and a few other things that will remind them about the place they used to live for a long time.

We had so much fun, I couldn’t stop photographing them:
